We watched "Gone with the Wind" for the first time the other night.  Well it was the first time for me.  Of course Elena has both read the book and seen the movie many times.

There are many life lessons in the movie and I will be commenting on them.

However the movie has caused me to expect things now and they just ain't happening!!!

We live in the South.

When we walk to baby I am not seeing any of the Older Southern Society Women saying.

"Well Good Afternoon LTC Dionisio and Mrs Dionisio, how is little Sasha doing."

So that I can nod, smile, tip my hat and give some pleasant greeting back.

Perhaps I need to wear a hat to tip.

How am I going to introduce our child into polite Southern Society without these women!!!

It is very vexing to me.

Welcome Alexandra "Sasha" Valery Dionisio

Sasha was born on April 1, 2009 at 5:07pm.  She weighed 8 lbs and 3.5 oz and is 21 inches long.

Elena was awesome.

Quotes from the Day.

When the policeman came up to us outside the Starbucks on post where Elena was waiting for me and having very bad contractions leaning against our car.  I waived him off saying all this was very natural and there is nothing to worry about.  This was about 2:30 PM.

When the anesthesiologist came in around (after she said it was time for the epidural) 4:45 PM and asked what her pain level was she said 8 out of 10.  Elena figured it was only going to get worse.  By the time they got the paperwork done amd asked all of the questions for the epidural it was to late and she had to do it natural.  The baby came a few minutes later at 5:07.

The staff and Dr were awesome and followed our birth plan to the T.

We had left everything at home.  All of that Lamaze stuff we had learned there was no time for.  Once we got to the hospital things happened so quickly that the staff pretty much took over and did everything and I was really just there for hand holding and counting.

There are pictures on Elena's LJ below.

We got home on Friday afternoon and everyone is doing fine.

For those who might be interested, we have a strong possibility that
the much-renowned Count Thorbrandr Olaffson (aka T-Bone) -- formerly
of the Northern Army of Atlantia -- will be attending the Thursday
Ponte Also practice (information below).

He is particularly known for his alternative weapons forms (e.g., two-
sword), and should he be in attendance will undoubtedly be a great
source of training and knowledge.

Along with Sir Thorbrandr's attendance and normal fighting, we will be
continuing with the new round of Scholum classes begun last week.

Please forward as appropriate.

In service,

Max Von Halstern

Greetings to the Fighters and Supports of the Atlantian Northern Army.

We had a successful Pennsic, however we would like the next year to be even better and to build on what we have now. We are looking for comments on Musters, Logistics, Leadership, Recruitment and/or Training. However we are not limited to that, they are just a few topics off the top of my head before I leave work for the day.

Please put the word out. We are also trying to pull in those folks who might have taken a break from fighting or are "old timers" and have not played in a while. We want to be as inclusive as possible.

Duke Badouin, the Commander of the Northern Army would like to hear form you and what you like/dislike so far as well as any comments you might have.

We have a yahoo group we use for put out info for Musters and Practices and just general information.

If you not on it, please join.

We promise to listen to, read and digest what you write. That doesn't mean that we will act on it but we will listen and discuss.

The site is.

Sir Guy
XO and servant of the Northern Army of Atlantia.

ps. This is also a reminder about the 10 Man Tourney next weekend at Coronation. Ponte Alto is putting together two teams. I believe they are looking for a couple folks from the North to fill slots. Baron Max is organizing the effort. If you are a fighter from the area and are looking for a team let us know.

I felt some posting was due because the Northern Army was such a big part of the Atlantian Army's success at Pennsic this year.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their hard work to this point.  Both the leaders for doing what was right for their fighters and the fighters doing their parts getting out to the field everyday, also the folks who came out to support us.  I hope the all of the people who made up the different parts of the Army had fun from the Crown on down to the common soldier.

It is a difficult balance between the many different games we all play within the sca and the many hats a lot of us wear.  Fighters such as myself feel a responsibility to both the Crown and the Fighters to be out on the field to be an example.  We want the fighters to feel connections to their brothers/sisters on the field, their units, the Northern Army and the Crown.  However if you make this connection feel like a responsibility for folks then that can lessen their fun, which we as leaders/peers are also responsibly for. It is easy to tell people what they should be feeling and wanting, it is much more difficult to try and instill that feeling in them so that in fact becomes a part of your common fighters fun.

We are planning a lot this year, from a Leader College for Baronial/Household Commanders and their chosen as well as Musters (Archery Musters as well)  to continue to sharpen this weapon that started to be forged at this years Pennsic. We have added an Operations Officer in Vels that is going to pay big dividends and we will soon have a Logics Officer, hopefully Mistress Chagan, as well to help coordination between our three military districts getting people places with the stuff they need.  I am looking forward to it.

Looking forward to the challenges and fun over the next year of taking things to the next level for Atlantia, the Northern Army and the common fighter.

Again. Thank you everyone for the work getting us to were we are and where we will be going.

Some notes about what the Commanders owe their troops and what the Command Staff owe the Commanders.

We commanders will muster 40 minutes before the battle so we can put the plan out. We will muster near Atlantian Royal tent on the field and then go from there to a Northern Army Location.

Make sure your Horsemen knows where you are camped so we can find you. His grace would like to do a walk about also so he can meet folks.

Just some of my thoughts for us to talk about before the war. It would be cool to muster as an Army once to go to the battlefield. To me it would be cool to muster at Royal then escort one of them down, but that is just me.

We owe you communalization and planning without wasting to much of your time. One of the top 7 will be attending Kingdom and perhaps Eastern Commanders meetings, we will take our part of the plan and refine it among the big 7 (Northern Army Commander, XO, Operations Officer, and the 4 Horsemen. Baronial/Household Unit Commanders will muster us 45 minutes before the battle to meet up with us and we will put the plan out. We will have the northern banner to one side of the Atlantian Kingdom Tent and meet there. That should give you enough time to take the plan back to your troops and make sure everyone knows what is going on. It is very important that everyone down to the last Atlantian figh
ter knows the plan so that they feel like their in the know. Sometimes one person does make a difference here. Attendance numbers might be low this year because of the economy; every fighter will count in every battle.

Try and know when all of the War points are (to include the two non war point battles that we are fighting with Æthelmearc. Try and get as many of your troops out to each battle. Many of these are going to be resurrection battles so attrition is going to be high after the battle starts, try and have them pace themselves, the last 10 minutes are more important than the first 45, those goes for the battles where they measure control of a flag or building every 10 minutes. I am not saying not to go party, this is Pennsic, they should be going out and having fun, however that is no reason not to show for a battle to support your friends and kingdom. Remind them to hydrate while they are drinking and during the battles.

Talk to your people, recognize their achievements, kind words and encouragement go much further than yelling and loosing tempers. We are all here for fun and to serve each other on the field. Find out if any of them need armor or anything, Pennsic is a place they can look for it. Find out their needs and help them to take care of them.

While it might be to late, make sure all of your people have unit surcoats,20again (even if your just have a strip of fabric for a baldric that works greay), make them feel like a part of something greater then themselves. This is also a reminder we are all trying to show up with mantels. If you have banners being them to the field and when we muster.

We will be walking the woods sometime before the battle, when I find out when we will let you know if any of the commanders wish to join us.

Some units will have extra mantels I am sure if you need them.

Your people are going to want to party it is their vacation, I am going to be drinking also, however numbers count, we really want to see as many people on the field for all of the battles as we can. Just remind them to drink water when they are out partying.

While the quality of our fighting will certainly count, the Northern Army’s reputation is also based on the numbers we are bringing to the field. We have what we have for this year, and it would be good if all available fighters at Pennsic made it for every battle. Pennsic might also be a good time for your groups to sit around and discuss recruiting for your warband/barony for next the next year since you will all be there.

The following is just some ideas I took from Army stuff.

5 Point Contingency Plan (really just used if you are going off for a commander muster and your troops are around)
1. Where=2
0going (Hey I am going to talk to Duke Badouin to figure out what is going on Lord Shiny Armor Guy #2 is in charge while I am gone) )
2. Who is going (I am taking Atlantian fighter Guy #1)
3. Actions to take if leader does not return (or get killed during a battle). Lord Shiny Armor Guy #2 is in charge.
4. What to do while I am gone. Practice, Rehearse (talking actions though like bridge and shield walls is gine), Get ready for Batttle)

Troop Leading Procedures

1. Receive the mission (Find out what is going on)
2. Issue a warning order (tell fighters what is going on)
3. Reconnoiter (if time look at the battle field or woods)
4. Make a tentative plan (What are we going to do with our part of the plan)
5. Supervise, Inspect, and Rehearse (lets practice or talk things through)
6. Complete the plan (Do we have to change anything)
7. Start necessary movement (lets go form up in our spot next to the Atlantian Prince)
8. Modify the plan (Crap Dark Moon moved way over there and they are our target, what are we going to do now)
8. Through out all of this make sure people are drinking water, talk to them see if anyone is hurt, pat people on the back, give cool heroic speeches.

Think about how you are going to handle the res battles for your fighters.

Having a command job is hard work. I am usually exhausted at the end of the day.

A lot of this is just to provoke thoughts in your heads about leadership.
